Assistant Office Manager Technical Certificate of Credit
The Assistant Office Manager Technical Certificate of Credit prepares individuals to plan, direct, and coordinate activities that help an organization run efficiently. Graduates will also gain the knowledge and skills to perform word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications in an office environment. It is designed to provide hands-on instruction for developing foundation skills for office assistant careers as well as to prepare students for Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification. Courses include Computer Literacy, Business Procedures, Computer Applications for the Business Professional, Expert Spreadsheet Analysis, Expert Word Processing, and Principles of Management. Graduates of the program receive an Assistant Office Manager Technical Certificate of Credit. The standard curriculum for the Assistant Office Manager Certificate program is designed for the semester system. Students may enter the program any semester. The certificate generally takes two (2) semesters to complete. To graduate, students must earn a minimum of 22 credit hours.
Requirements
- Submit a completed application;
- Be at least 16 years of age;
- Submit official high school/high school equivalent transcripts;
- Submit official college transcripts, if applicable;
- Satisfy Placement Testing requirements.

| BUSN 1240Office Procedures
(Prerequisite: COMP 1000 or Guided Elective) Emphasizes essential skills required for the business office. Topics include office protocol, time management, telecommunications and telephone techniques, office equipment, workplace mail, records management, travel/meeting arrangements, electronic mail, and workplace documents. |

| BUSN 1450Computer Applications for the Business Professional
(Prerequisite: COMP 1000) This course covers the basic skills required to use word processing, spreadsheet and database management software through course demonstrations, laboratory exercises, and projects. |

| BUSN 1470Professional Communication Skills
(Prerequisite: COMP 1000) Provides an overview of digital technology used for conducting business, such as, the fundamentals of communicating with others inside and outside the organization. Students will learn the application of business activities using various digital platforms. Emphasis is placed on Professional Social Media Conduct and Workplace Computer Security and Safety. |

| BUSN 2130Expert Spreadsheet Analysis
(Prerequisites: BUSN 1450) This course expands on basic spreadsheet software knowledge and skills. Topics will include: advanced workbook options and setting, applying custom formats and layouts, creating and applying advanced formulas, and creating advanced charts and tables. This course is designed to prepare the student to take the related Microsoft Office Specialist certification exam. |

(Prerequisite: BUSN 1450) This course expands on basic word processing knowledge and skills. Topics will include managing document options and settings, creating advanced documents and using advanced tools to create document elements and references. This course is designed to prepare the student to take the related Microsoft Office Specialist certification exam. |

| MGMT 1100Principles of Management
(Prerequisite: Provisional admission) Develops skills and behaviors necessary for successful supervision of people and job responsibilities. Emphasis will be placed on real life concepts, personal skill development, applied knowledge and managing human resources. Course content is intended to help managers and supervisors deal with a dramatically changing workplace being affected by technology changes, a more competitive and global marketplace, corporate restructuring and the changing nature of work and the workforce. Topics include: Understanding the manager's job and work environment, building an effective organizational culture, leading, directing, and the application of authority, planning, decision-making, and problem-solving, human resource management, administrative management, organizing, and controlling. |

This course introduces the fundamental concepts, terminology, and operations necessary to use computers. Emphasis is placed on basic functions and familiarity with computer use. Topics include introductions to computer and digital terminology and usage, operating systems, Internet and digital communication, word processing applications, spreadsheet applications, database applications, and presentation applications. |
