Foundations of Nursing RNSG 1005
7 Credits(Pre-requisite: Program Admission) (Co-requisite: RNSG 1018) This course provides an introduction to nursing and roles of the nurse, as well as profession related and client care concepts. Emphasis is placed on the knowledge and skills needed to provide safe, quality care. The theoretical foundation for basic assessment and nursing skills is presented, and the student is given an opportunity to demonstrate these skills in the laboratory and clinical settings. An introduction to the nursing process provides a decision-making framework to assist students in developing effective clinical judgment skills. The role of the nurse as a provider will include: client-centered care; teamwork and collaboration; evidence-based practice; quality improvement; safety; informatics; professionalism; and leadership. The clinical experience will introduce the student to the application of theoretical concepts and implementation of safe client care to adults in a variety of healthcare settings.
