Commercial Truck Driving
STC’s Commercial Driving – Class A (CTD) program provides basic training in the principles and skills of commercial truck operations. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the 2022 mean annual wage of heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers was $53,090 annually or $25.52 an hour. Approximately 259,900 job openings are projected each year from 2021 to 2031 with many of those openings resulting from the need to replace workers who transfer employment or exit the labor force. Since 2021, local recruiters/employers who hire Southeastern Technical College graduates are offering over-the-road driver salaries ranging from $50,000 to $95,000 annually.
CTD students receive commercial truck driving training on-site and on the road in day or evening classes over a 7½ week period. Upon successful completion of the program, the student is eligible to take the Georgia CDL Skills Exam. Southeastern Technical College offers day and night classes on the Vidalia campus and day classes on the Swainsboro campus.
