The Georgia Career Information System and U.S. Department of Labor both see increasing opportunities for dental hygienists in the near future, and Southeastern Tech’s experienced faculty and cutting-edge facilities can open the door to those opportunities.
Registered dental hygienists work in a variety of professional settings. The public is most familiar with dental hygienists in the private dental office, where they perform numerous critical services designed to detect and prevent diseases of the mouth. These include oral prophylaxis; examining the head, neck, and oral areas for signs of disease; educating patients about oral hygiene; exposing dental radiographs; and applying fluoride and sealants. Other employment settings include military bases, correctional facilities, or dental product companies.
The Georgia Career Information System foresees an increased need for dental hygienists in the near future, and the outlook for dental hygienists is one of fast growth. The U.S. Department of Labor states “employment of dental hygienists is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations.” According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median salary for dental hygienists is $77,810 annually.
