Dual Enrollment - Nurse Aide OPTION 2 (MNA1) Technical Certificate of Credit

The Nurse Aide Technical Certificate of Credit is a state-approved program which offers training to candidates that desire to become eligible for certification as a certified nurse aide (CNA). The program prepares students with classroom training and practice as well as the clinical experiences necessary to work in all health care facilities (e.g. nursing homes, hospitals, hospice, home health, etc.).

The standard curriculum for the Nurse Aide Certificate program is designed for the semester system. To graduate, students must earn 10 credit hours.

This program is limited to high school Dual Enrollment students only.

Requirements

Must meet with high school counselor and STC’s high school initiative coordinator;
Submit a completed STC Dual Enrollment Application;
Submit a Dual Enrollment Funding Application at www.gafutures.org;
Submit official high school/high school equivalent transcripts;
Submit official college transcripts, if applicable;
Satisfy Placement Testing requirements.

- Clinical background checks are mandated for all nursing facilities as stated in Georgia Code Title 31-7-350-353. Adverse information on criminal background checks does hinder an individual from participating in clinical and obtaining employment.
Respiratory N95 Mask: $20 (No charge during COVID-19)
BLS CPR & First Aid: $65
Liability Insurance: $12 per year

- Tuberculin Skin Test (TST)/PPD - Two-step: $25 per step
- Hepatitis Vaccine: $117 (Titer: $20) or Declination Form
- Seasonal Influenza Vaccine: $25
- COVID-19 Vaccine: (No charge during COVID-19)

(Immunizations are contingent upon clinical site policies and may vary. Specific vaccine requirements will be provided by program faculty during the NAST 1100 Nurse Aide Fundamentals course.)

Please note expenses related to the NAST 1100 Nurse Aide Fundamentals course will NOT be refunded if the student is unable, unwilling, or ineligible to complete the clinical component of the course. Fees are due as noted on syllabus. Failure to pay the fees by the deadline may result in the student not being allowed to return to class.

Some clinical sites require a physical exam and proof of health insurance. Failure to supply all required (unexpired) documentation may prohibit the student from attending clinical. A student who cannot complete program clinical requirements may not continue in the program.

The Nurse Aide program is approved by the State of Georgia. The Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH) designates Alliant Health Solutions to ensure approved Nurse Aide training programs are in compliance with the Code of Federal Regulations as stated in 42CFR483.150-158 and with State guidelines.

Curriculum Outline (10 hours)

DUAL ENROLLMENT STUDENTS ONLY - OPTION 2	10
ALHS 1060Diet & Nutrition for Allied Health Sciences (Prerequisite: Program Admission) A study of the nutritional needs of the individual. Topics include: nutrients, standard and modified diets, nutrition throughout the lifespan, and client education.	2
EMPL 1000Interpersonal Relations/Professional Development (Prerequisite: Provisional admission) Emphasizes human relations and professional development in today's rapidly changing world that prepares students for living and working in a complex society. Topics include human relations skills, job acquisition skills and communication, job retention skills, job advancement skills, and professional image skills.	2
NAST 1100Nurse Aide Fundamentals (Prerequisite/Co-requisites: ALHS 1040, ALHS 1090, ALHS 1060) Introduces student to the role and responsibilities of the Nurse Aide. Emphasis is placed on understanding and developing critical thinking skills, as well as demonstrating knowledge of the location and function of human body systems and common disease processes; responding to and reporting changes in a residents /patients condition, nutrition, vital signs; nutrition and diet therapy; disease processes; vital signs; observing, reporting and documenting changes in a residents condition; emergency concerns; ethics and legal issues and governmental agencies that influence the care of the elderly in long term care settings; mental health and psychosocial well-being of the elderly; use and care of mechanical devices and equipment; communication and interpersonal skills and hands-on skills competency based on federal guidelines. Specific topics include: roles and responsibilities of the Nurse Aide; communication and interpersonal skills; topography, structure, and function of the body systems; injury prevention and emergency preparedness; residents rights; basic patient care skills; personal care skills; and restorative care.	6
*NAST 1100 Nurse Aide Fundamentals will be completed during the second high school semester.
