Commercial Truck Driving (CT61)  Technical Certificate of Credit

A Learner’s Permit Class will be offered free of charge on February 5, 2022 and again on April 9, 2022 for anyone interested in preparing for the Commercial Truck Driving program through Southeastern Technical College. Requirements

• Submit a completed application;
• Be at least 18 years of age;
• Have a valid Georgia Driver's License;
• Provide a 7-year Motor Vehicle Report that shows no more than eight (8) points or three (3) moving violations in the last three (3) years and no DUI in the last seven (7) years
  • Must be completed within 30 days of program start date;
• Pass a DOT physical
  • Not required until all other criteria has been met.
• Obtain a Commercial Learner’s Permit prior to acceptance
• Pass NIDA 5 drug screening
• Meet any applicable Federal Standards;
• Applicants must comply with Federal requirements as set forth in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
• Satisfy Placement Testing requirements.
• Due to limited space in the program, applicants will be admitted to the truck driving program on a first-come, first-served basis. Once an applicant has completed and submitted all the required paperwork, he/she will be added to the list of students that are ready to begin the program.

External Standards

All students who enter the Commercial Truck Driver training program are subject to all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) as they apply to the professional driver. Each student’s file must contain copies of the driver’s Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), DOT Physical, and a NIDA 5 DOT Drug Screen before they can operate a commercial vehicle on public roads. All CDL testing is done under contract with the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS). CDL testing is administered by DDS certified third party examiners under the direction of the Georgia DDS. Each testing location is randomly audited several times each year to ensure compliance.

Training providers must comply with federal requirements. The Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) Final Rule set a federal standard for mandatory training of entry-level Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) drivers.

Southeastern Tech is a Registered Training Provider as of Fall 2021 (202212) and registered at http://tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov/provider. Anyone testing for a CDL license must take training from a registered provider as of February 7, 2022.

Other Program Conditions

Students are advised that the FMCSA regulates the Technical College System of Georgia’s Commercial Driver licensing programs. A drug test is conducted by EZDOT prior to performing any safety-sensitive functions in or around a commercial vehicle. Further, random drug testing is a federal requirement during the course of the CDT program.
